Hi! I am an Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) based out of Washington State. Life can be hard and messy! We have all experienced unexpected difficulties and loss; whether it be the death of a loved one, the loss of a job or a significant relationship or some other challenge that has been hard to navigate on our own. I have worked with both justice impacted and non-justice impacted individuals challenged by depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss as well as drug and alcohol addiction. My approach is a a person centered strengths based solution focused approach drawing heavily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I approach therapy uniquely and as an opportunity to find the lessons and strengths in the difficulties we all face. I am laid back and believe there is therapeutic value in humor, mindfulness, and finding gratitude in the small things. I wholeheartedly believe you are the expert of your story and that you have the aptitude that will assist you in achieving greatness! Reaching out for help can be intimidating and overwhelming. I want to commend you on taking the first step to sign up for therapy! Most of my appointments are on Sunday’s with some availability on Saturday’s as well as weekday evenings. I am excited to begin working with you. Together, we can identify your goals and make plans for you to achieve them.

Welcome to my Therapy Room. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience working in Mental Health. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including refugees, geriatric, chronic mental illness, relationship issues, and trauma. I have had special training in diagnosing Adults on the Autism Spectrum using the ADOS 2. I have had training in sex therapy and Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy as well. I can supervise other therapists/students in WA state and discuss cases with colleagues as required per your code of ethics. My therapy style is person centered and solution focused. I believe you already have answers within you but may need someone to shine a flashlight on parts that may be hidden or buried. I will tailor our dialogue to meet your unique and specific needs. I am an introvert and will be more of a listener and guider. My style is not as interactive and upbeat as compared to an extroverted therapist. I am straightforward and go straight to the work in most cases, rather than spending lengthy time on small talk. I am part of the LGBTQ+ community. I came to this country as a refugee in the 1980s and am a survivor of trauma. Age is important to clients so I will disclose I am in the 40s age range. My hobbies, include hiking, board games, reading, drinking tea and playing with cats. A little explanation on how I use different therapies: Somatic- helping you locate the feeling in the body and describing it based on a feeling meditation that originates from Eastern philosophies (this is a common technique used by therapists in recent years) CBT- working on thought distortions. Specifically, I like to teach a session on 12 common thought distortions and help you identify how they show up for you. ACT- working on seeing things can be both this way and that way, it's not black and white. We add the word "and" rather than "or" to your view of the world. AEDP- exploring how anxiety is really a cover for other emotions such as disappointment, rage, fear etc. Compassionate Inquiry- identifying how the emotional flashbacks (aka triggers) you are experiencing now are related to things that took place in the past. Awareness leads to initiation and we work on no longer letting these patterns take control of your life. Therapist self disclosure with personal stories that relate to yours is necessary. (this goes against some older styles where therapists didn't self-disclose) Motivational Interviewing- looking at how your goals don't match your current behaviors. Regular talk therapy and venting is great too- it helps me reflect back your patterns to you. For instance if you say a certain phrase frequently I will point this out to you. Poetry- I enjoy mixing in poetry when it pertains to certain issues and especially if you are a writer/poet. Shadow Work- exploring your unconscious patterns and stored memories and how they affect your way of thinking. Please take advantage of the journal feature. If you share it with me I may comment and we can discuss highlights during our sessions. I am ok with you having to multitask/snack/cook/text as long as you are dressed appropriately and engage in therapy. While we try our best to have a professional setting, sometimes working from home entails apartment noises, and a less than perfect setting. I may eat a snack or use my standing desk and exercise my feet for health reasons. If you are here for relationship struggles I will ask you and your significant other to take the Gottman Relationship Checkup which will cost $39 per couple. It will give us a comprehensive map of areas to focus on. Please do not pay for this test before you see me, the one that therapists use is very different than the one people get when they self-refer. My sessions are 30 to 45 minutes. We can see how the session is flowing and the stopping point will occur naturally for each session. However the minimum is 30 minutes. I can't accept less than that due to financial reasons. Betterhelp is great because you have an unlimited chat service available 24/7 and when you schedule sessions, you can choose between phone, video and chatroom (livechat). So if you had a video session booked but it turns out you are at the doctor's office- we can quickly make it a livechat or if you are driving we can make it a phone call. It's easy to switch on my end. I look forward to meeting you!

Welcome to my therapeutic practice. Engaging in therapy is a deeply personal journey, and finding a therapist with whom you can connect and grow is essential. I believe that therapy is a unique experience for each individual, shaped by their diverse backgrounds, experiences, and needs. However, it's crucial to understand that real change can only happen if the client is willing to work towards it. A therapist is not a magician who can make everything happen without the client's active participation and commitment to the process. In my six years as a licensed therapist in Washington, I've come to understand the profound impact that therapy can have on one's life. Fluent in both English and Spanish, I offer bilingual services to ensure accessibility and inclusivity for all clients. Therapy has evolved from traditional models to a more person-centered approach, where the focus is on building a collaborative and trusting relationship between therapist and client. I strive to create a safe and non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences freely. Creative expression is a powerful tool in therapy, allowing for the exploration of unspoken feelings often associated with shame. Through active listening and compassionate support, I aim to help you navigate difficult topics with courage and resilience. Setting boundaries and taking responsibility for oneself are essential aspects of good mental health. My role as a therapist is to empower you to take ownership of your journey and make positive changes that align with your values and goals. It's also important to recognize that therapists come with various styles and approaches. Some may focus on cognitive-behavioral techniques, while others might use humanistic, psychodynamic, or integrative methods. Finding a therapist whose approach resonates with you is key to a successful therapeutic relationship. Ultimately, the goal of therapy is to equip you with the skills and insight needed to navigate life's challenges independently. I believe that social media often leads us to seek external guidance when the answers lie within ourselves. It's important to prioritize self-care and recognize the value of investing in your mental health. Opting into a therapeutic relationship can be life-changing, not only for yourself but also for those around you. I am committed to accompanying you on your transformative journey towards positive change and personal empowerment. I look forward to the opportunity to support you as you discover your inner strength and resilience, and I'm here to provide guidance, compassion, and encouragement every step of the way.

Michael Green
I am licensed as an LICSW and have worked for over three decades in private practice and also in the mental health public sector. I'm experienced in GLBTQ+-related issues; couples counseling and relationship issues; grief and loss issues; EAP issues; intimacy issues; abuse, trauma and gaslighting. I hope to help you work through the effects of unfinished business from the past and a range of other issues, including some of the more existential issues of this moment. My preferred approach is existential and psychodynamic, which acknowledges and explores feelings, instincts and unconscious processes, as distinguished from an approach that is more cognitive and behavioral. I'm spiritual but not religious. Although much of the therapy I do is short term, I also have many long term therapy who are looking for an increased sense of wholeness and an enhanced ability to connect with the world without a lot of amount of repression, self-judgment, dissociation and noise, all of which tends to get in the way of spontaneity, creativity and emotional authenticity. I call myself a psychodynamically-oriented therapist not because I believe that the unconscious exists in the same way that the moon exists, although there are symbolic parallels, but because acknowledging the existence of unconscious defenses/agendas can lead to some very powerful insights that would otherwise fly under the radar. In our highly technocratic and materialistic culture, that can indeed be a challenge but IMO, it's a challenge well-worth taking on. You should know that while I don't send out a lot of Better Help worksheets and the like, I will frequently point my clients to sources, links, articles, books, poetry and research which are relevant to our work together and/or in which we have an interest. Finally, I have a strong aversion to treating clients like self-contained widgets who exist strictly in their heads while compartmentalizing-off their socioeconomic situation, which may be directly contributing to their depression, alienation and angst. If you're struggling with survival issues, however, I believe that grounding is essential, not a lot of speculation on the stars. Our therapeutic goals, therefore, should acknowledge that as well. While I'm eclectic in my approach, please know that there are no rabbits I can pull out of a hat. I can, however, try to better understand your weaknesses and leverage your strengths. Taking that first step to seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage. You took that step in signing up with Better Help. I am here to help support you in that process.

I work 3AM -11 AM CST Please ensure your schedule aligns. Are you feeling stuck in negative thoughts, intense emotions, or behavioral patterns that don't serve your best interest? Are you hoping to build more meaning and joy in your life? You may feel hesitant about reaching out for help, especially with pressure from all directions to "have it all together". I'm here to join you on this journey to discover healing and build a balanced life. My goal is to help you find compassion for yourself, develop skills to help you navigate life stressors, and be confident in the resilient person you are. I believe that therapy is not “one size fits all” when it comes to the type of approach that is being used. Although my background and approach is deeply rooted in behavioral approaches, I recognize that therapy needs to be tailored and personalized to help you reach your goals and full potential. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and have had the opportunity to work in the mental health and substance abuse field for over 5 years. I am professionally trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). I believe we are all unique and pull from multiple theories to best fit each client.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Some of the most commonly asked questions about therapy can be found in the section below.
How much does a therapist cost?
Mental health professionals can differ in price. Forbes found that the average cost of in-person therapy in the US is around $100 to $200 per hour. Pricing can also vary based on your location.
BetterHelp offers payment plans of $60 to $90 per session, charged monthly in a lump sum. You can also take advantage of this pricing on one of BetterHelp's sister platforms, like ReGain for couples or TeenCounseling for teens aged 13 to 19.
Many therapists may be upfront about their pricing and whether or not they take health insurance from the beginning. Additionally, some in your area may offer a sliding scale plan to allow those with lower incomes to pay less for therapy. However, services online can often save individuals a few hundred dollars per month.
When should I get a therapist in Washington?
Mental health services and mental health providers may help you navigate various concerns. You do not need a diagnosis or condition to attend therapy; You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general advice. A counselor may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.
Mental health issues don't always present as a crisis. Many professionals provide talk therapy and support for life transitions, skills learning, relationship problems, or life coaching. Online therapy sessions can allow clients seeking therapy to experience professional help through video, phone, or live chat sessions without commuting to an office.
Does insurance cover the cost of therapy?
Different counseling services can vary in cost. Therapists must apply to accept insurance through insurance companies, which may take time and money, so not every therapist offers services through insurance. If you cannot find a therapist that accepts your plan, BetterHelp may be cheaper than visiting an in-person therapist.
Is online therapy the safe option?
Online therapy through BetterHelp and its sister platforms is safe. Therapists are licensed, experienced, and vetted before being contracted with the platform. If you experience any concerns with your therapist, you change your counselor through the platform or app at any time.
